Waverly 8th grader Elle Nittinger won her age group Saturday at the New York Mets team championship of Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit and Run competition here at CitiField.

More than 600,000 boys and girls aged 7-14 have competed in this year's competition. The Mets team competition included kids from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Nittinger, who advanced to CitiField by winning the section title in Oneonta which followed her victory in the Valley competition held in East Waverly in May, won the 13-14 year old age division. Nittinger now awaits word on the chance to compete during the All-Star week festivities July 14 at Target Field in Minneapolis.

The top three scorers in each age group from all 30 Major League team Championships will advance to the National Competition.

The selections will be announced June 29 on MLB Network.
