Waverly lost 4-0 to Newark Valley in girls' soccer action at the Greene Invitational Thursday.

Angella Halliday had all four NV goals, all coming in the first half. Halliday scored 6:36 at in off a Mikayla Rypkema assist, then followed that up with a goal at the 27:12 mark off a Lindsey Bakal assist.

Halliday's next two goals came at 29:03 and 31:47; both of them were unassisted.

"With two games in two days I think we were a bit worn down," Waverly coach Brian Myers said. "Newark Valley is a very good team with some very good players."

NV out-shot Waverly 15-7 and had more corner kicks 2-1. Waverly's Allie Frutchey made seven saves while Emily Riehle had five for Newark Valley.

"In the first half we came out very slow and they pretty much took it to us," Myers said. "We can't have let-downs against quality opponents. The team just gave up four goals in the first half, three in a span of five minutes. In the second half we made some adjustments and were better as a team. We looked good at times, just too many breakdowns."

Notre Dame 7, Tioga 0

The Tigers fell to Notre Dame behind six first-half Crusader goals.

"Notre Dame dominated the first half," Tioga coach Dave Reese said. "Tioga played a much more spirited second half. Marianne Thomaris for Notre Dame is a stand-out player."
