WELLSBORO - The Green Hornets got back to .500, while the Canton Warriors are still searching for their first win of the year after Wellsboro picked up a 21-15 win Friday.

Canton struck first in the game as John Bowman scored on a one-yard run at 5:34 of the first quarter and Brian Jannone hit the extra point.

Wellsboro evened the score at seven at 9:19 of the second quarter when Wyatt Covert scored on a three-yard run and Jack Chambers hit the extra point.

With just 37 seconds left in the half Mike Pietropola hit Dan Saniga on a 25-yard touchdown pass and Chambers hit the extra point to make it a 14-7 lead.

Wellsboro extended their lead in the third quarter as Pietropola scored on an 80-yard run and Chambers hit the extra point with 1:48 left in the quarter.

Canton got back within six in the fourth as Tyler Cole scored on a one-yard run and Canton converted the two-point play to make it 21-15 with 10:29 left, but they could get no closer.

Pietropola led the Wellsboro offense with 119 yards and Covert had 18 yards on the ground.

Pietropola was 3-for-12 passing for 62 yards and Saniga had three catches for the 62 yards and a score.

Canton got 93 yards and a score from Tyler Cole on 15 carries and Eddie Larcom had 39 yards on four carries, while Noah Barnett had six carries for 28 yards and Tim Bassett had 26 yards, while West Moore had 14 yards.

Bowman was 4-for-10 passing, Trevor Route, West Moore and Eddie Larcom all had catches in the game.

Covert had 13 tackles for Wellsboro and Ben Shaw and Thomas Straniere each had 10 tackles, while freshman Anthony Cooper intercepted a pass.
