Wellsboro grad Marple earns academic honors
Le Moyne College student-athletes Alex Marple, of Wellsboro, Sarah Connelly and Allie Scorzelli have been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference team for their respective sports, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
Marple, a junior on the women's basketball team, earns her first Academic All-Conference honors. Marple, who became just the fourth Dolphin to earn All-Northeast-10 Conference accolades when she was named to the NE-10 Third Team last month, had a breakout season under the direction of first-year head coach Gina Castelli.
A physics major with a 3.799 grade point average, Marple led the team in scoring with 408 total points and an average of 14.6 points per game, which rank ninth and 10th in the Northeast-10, respectively. Her 408 points are tied for the 10th-most in the program's 38-year history (second-most over the last 11 years) and are the most by a Dolphin since Kim Wagoner '08 tallied 421 during the 2005-06 season. Marple tallied 127 of her points from the foul line, the second-most in the NE-10 this season and the fourth-most in the program's history, while ranking as the most over the last 20 seasons.
She scored in double-figures in 20 games and scored at least 21 points in nine contests. Additionally, she ranked second on the team in assists with 56 (2.0 per game) and was fourth on the team in rebounds (79 total, 2.8 per game), while ranking second in offensive rebounds (40 total, 1.4 per game).
