Williamsport fell behind by three early runs, but Ryne White's grand slam capped off an eight-run second inning to power the Cutters to a 9-5 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Thursday night at Historic Bowman Field.

Jordan Cooper retired four of the first five batters he faced before Kelly Dugan doubled to set in a motion a string of eight straight Cutters reaching base and scoring. Williamsport got RBI hits in the inning from Jeff Cusick, Edgar Duran, and Matt McConnell, before White's slam made the score 8-3.

White finished the game 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and a run scored to earn "Cutters Player of the Game" honors.

Jesse Biddle got the start for the Cutters and struggled to find his control as he walked five batters and surrendered three runs in just 1 1/3 innings before exiting the game in favor of Eric Pettis.

Pettis allowed just one hit over 3 2/3 scoreless innings to earn his eighth victory of the season.

Williamsport scored their ninth run on a Miguel Alvarez single in the third that made the score 9-3.

Mahoning Valley scored one in the sixth off Julian Sampson to cut the lead to five and another in ninth off Chase Johnson, but Johnson was able to get Giovanny Urshella to fly out Aaron Altherr to end the game.

With the victory the Cutters improve their record to 41-32. The Jamestown Jammers also won so Williamsport remains a half game ahead of the Jammers in the New York-Penn League wildcard standings with just three games left in the season.

The Cutters close out the regular season with two games at Bowman against the State College Spikes before heading to State College on Sunday for the season finale. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
